Attachment is not a bond
The dog follows you everywhere you go? Doesn't let you out of his sight? Can hardly bear to be without you? Warning: This has nothing to do with bonding!
Such attachment is simply a puppy's natural instinct to follow, which quickly fades away. If an older dog behaves like this, it is insecure. It lacks the trust that only a stable social environment can give it: the trust that nothing can happen to it. That its "leader" will take care of everything important. And that the human will always come back.
A dog with a good bond should appear calm. He does not need to constantly check where the other family members are. Such a dog uses phases in which no one is looking after him or he is alone to sleep. Since a dog eats almost twice as much S leep is just as important as a human, so such rest breaks are welcome. Super-affectionate dogs, on the other hand, never have the chance to really relax because they are so busy chasing after people, watching over them and demanding attention. They are constantly under stress and become increasingly nervous. The fact is, being left alone is not a rest for such a dog, but a time of suffering.
On the other hand, the attachment of insecure dogs is no guarantee that the dog will actually orient itself towards the human when it matters. A clingy Dog does not always listen to the recall or trust human leadership in difficult situations. It can also happen that the dog shows aggression, runs away or does not pay attention to you at all. A real, reliable bond has to be worked on!
Instead of being happy about your dog's great love and affection, you should start building a bond as quickly as possible. This works best if you consistently take the lead. Set clear rules - from a firm sleeping place to walking properly on a leash – and enforce it. Build closeness, e.g. by hand-feeding. Take the initiative to play, cuddle, engage with the dog, instead of reacting to the dog's requests. All of these things give the dog security in the family unit – the basis for a good bond and a calm, confident Dog .
