Remove and avoid animal odors

Tiergerüche entfernen und vermeiden

Our beloved four-legged friends enrich our lives every day . They value us, bring us joy, and ensure our well-being . Depending on the type of pet, they live very close to us. Some even share our sofa or bed. Typical pet odors are inevitable. In today's blog post, we'll explain how you can actively combat them indoors and prevent unpleasant odors from your pet.

Animal odors in dog and cat keeping

When it's warm outside, the sun is shining, and the window to the garden is open, it rarely smells like "dog" or "cat." When it rains, however, this changes very quickly, especially if you're a dog owner. During daily walks, it's unavoidable that your dog will roam through the damp grass of the morning, or even have to go outside in rainy weather. Breeds with a particularly dense undercoat dry slowly. Wetness and the warm, humid environment in your pet's fur can promote unpleasant odors.

To prevent unpleasant odors caused by moisture in the coat, you'll unfortunately need to be consistent. After your walk, you should rub your dog dry with a soft, absorbent cloth. If your dog's undercoat is very wet, drying it with a hairdryer can also be helpful. However, this depends on the individual, as many dogs don't like blow-drying.

Avoid pet odors from dogs and cats

A lightweight raincoat can keep some of the moisture off your dog's fur. If you regularly drive with your dog, make sure you remove wet blankets after the trip or wipe out any damp kennels. Otherwise, moisture can quickly build up in your vehicle and even penetrate the ventilation system. A rubber mat in the trunk not only keeps out moisture but also provides your dog with more grip during the trip.

In addition to seasonal odors, there are also unpleasant odors that can arise due to illness or age. These include puppies or kittens that aren't yet housetrained, or very old dogs and cats that occasionally have an accident. In addition to age-related impurities, illness can also cause a dog or cat to become "leaky."

Likewise, these moments can become a real burden for all other household members, as these unpleasant odors are almost impossible to avoid. Incontinence pants and diapers can protect your four-legged friend from unwanted urine loss. Of course, these must be changed regularly or, ideally, are washable. Remember, cats in particular place great importance on cleanliness . Cats often wrinkle their noses if their litter box hasn't been cleaned properly.
